INTRODUCTION

STEPS TOWARDS HYGIENE

The conceptualization began with the idea of consolidating all three services, leading to the ideal handwashing process recommended in various situations such as after restroom use, meals, cooking, and work, where each step, as per CDC guidelines, should take at least 30 seconds for optimal hygiene. The breakdown below specifies the minimum time required for each step.

WHY SUCH INNOVATION?

The current landscape of hand sanitization solutions presents a critical challenge as a limited array of options is available, with the majority being inherently unhygienic. This scarcity of effective alternatives has escalated the risk of communicable diseases, particularly in the context of the COVID pandemic, underscoring an urgent need for innovative and comprehensive hand hygiene solutions.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
COVID-19 PANDEMIC CLAIMED MORE THAN 3 MILLION LIVES WORLDWIDE!
OF OTHER COMMUNICABLE DISEASES ARE TRANSFERRED BY TOUCH.
HOSPITAL PATIENTS HAS AT LEAST ONE HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATED INFECTION.
OF INDIVIDUALS DON'T WASH THERE HANDS AFTER USING THE RESTROOM!
This product addresses the common scenario in public bathrooms where three separate entities are typically dispersed. This dispersion often gives rise to a range of hygiene issues, as outlined below.

DESIGN CRITERIAS

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

GEOMETRICAL FORMS

Opting for geometrical forms stems from a desire for clean lines and structured simplicity. This choice aims to convey a sense of modern efficiency and functionality, aligning with a straightforward and organized design approach.

ORGANIC FORMS

The preference for organic forms is grounded in the pursuit of user-friendly aesthetics inspired by nature. This approach prioritizes a softer, more approachable design language, aiming to integrate seamlessly into users' lives while providing an intuitive and visually pleasing experience.

Building upon existing forms, to maintain consistency and familiarity.
Seeking a fusion of organic and geometrical forms to balance manufacturing feasibility while introducing a softer aesthetic by mitigating some of the sharp visual lines.
Opting for a sideways hand-cleaning approach became more appealing and notable compared to Dyson's Air, where inserting hands into a device raises concerns about potential exposure to unseen germs.
Curves emerged, giving shape to a substantial unit seamlessly integrating all three functions without overwhelming the user. It offers straightforward accessibility and uncomplicated functionality.
It was concluded that a single tap protruding from the sink was impractical, as it added more organic surface areas to clean, challenging the perspective of cleanliness.
The notion of a surface-mounted unit evolved, driven by the realization that free-standing units, apart from being outdated, would incur excessive freight costs due to their considerable box size.

MOCKUP AND USER TESTING

Using the sketches as a guide, a 1:1 scaled model was created to assess ergonomics. A simple boxy form was deliberately chosen for a swift mockup, aiming to verify fundamental dimensions and ensure optimal hand movements and functionality around the sink. Feedback from 15 users with diverse hand sizes and heights was gathered to evaluate the sink's ease of use. Here is a photo of the mockup.

User Feedbacks

"A more organic form could boost its appeal among users."

User Feedbacks

"Concerned about gaps in the corners; they might accumulate dust. Simplifying corners for easier cleaning would be beneficial."

User Feedbacks

"Suggesting a less boxy design for a more visually pleasing look."

User Feedbacks

“You can cut down a lot of volume and make it narrower. It looks like a commercial kitchen sink”

User Feedbacks

"The design lacks appeal; consider incorporating more organic forms to attract users."

User Feedbacks

"The dryer area is too big; hands can be dried effectively with a smaller size."

User Feedbacks

"Design is too boxy"

User Feedbacks

"While the size is good, a smaller dryer area would enhance practicality during hand-drying."

User Feedbacks

"A less intimidating design would be more user-friendly and inviting."

User Feedbacks

"Need outlet for Dryer water"

User Feedbacks

"See if you can lower the height and surface. Just like the Bradley Advocate!"
